Heart of Midlothian have officially confirmed the signing of Aron Benjaminsen from Víkingur.
The 18-year-old Faroese winger has signed a four-year contract with the Scottish Premiership club for an undisclosed fee, subject to Scottish FA approval and international clearance.
The move completes a transfer that had been building since late August, when Faroese journalist Tróndur Arge first reported that Benjaminsen was heading to Hearts.
A rapid rise in the Faroe Islands
Benjaminsen returned to Faroese football with Víkingur in March after a spell with Kristiansund in Norway and quickly became one of the standout attacking players in the Meistaradeildin.
Hearts credit him with eight goals and nine assists in 20 league appearances this season, accounting for 17 goal contributions from Víkingur’s first 30 league goals.
He also scored in both legs of Víkingur’s UEFA Conference League qualifier against Stjarnan.
His performances had already attracted interest from abroad earlier in the summer. In May, Víkingur chairman Brandur Jacobsen confirmed that the club had received foreign interest, with Kringvarp Føroya reporting that Serbian side FK Čukarički were believed to have submitted a bid.
SkyrScout profiled him before the move
SkyrScout published a full scouting report on Benjaminsen on August 22.
The report highlighted his explosive acceleration, close control, relentless one-on-one dribbling and outstanding left foot, while noting that his performances in the Faroese league and European qualifiers were likely to have attracted attention.
Our transfer outlook concluded that we would not be surprised to see a club move for him during the summer window.
Eleven days later, Hearts have made the move official.
