Aron Benjaminsen • 18-year-old right winger • Faroe Islands
Aron Benjaminsen is a winger who can operate on either side, but is best suited to the right as an inverted winger, where he can make the most of his strongest qualities. Officially listed at 175 cm, he looks considerably smaller to me, perhaps closer to 171 cm.
He usually starts wide but frequently drifts into the half-space, where he is very good at finding small pockets of room to receive the ball.
Benjaminsen has very good acceleration and good pace, combined with a low centre of gravity, close ball control and excellent timing in his dribbling. You could even call him “The King of Nutmegs”, as he frequently shifts his weight to throw defenders off balance before quickly putting the ball through their legs. It is a spectacular little detail on top of an already excellent dribbling repertoire.
Once he receives the ball out wide, he relentlessly challenges defenders one-on-one, driving towards the corner of the penalty area before unleashing powerful shots with his outstanding left foot. He is particularly good at varying his finishing, either curling towards the far top corner or going for a heavy strike towards the near post. Although far from two-footed, his right foot is more than usable and cannot simply be ignored, which is often a challenge for talented left-footed attackers.
His relentless one-on-one approach also highlights his stamina, while defensively he works hard, competes strongly and wins plenty of ground duels. The fighting spirit is clearly visible in his game.
Benjaminsen is also creative, showing good vision and anticipation. His passing is solid, and he frequently looks for clever little chips in behind the defensive line, several of which have created excellent scoring opportunities.
His left foot is equally dangerous from set pieces. Whipped free kicks and corners into the box have already produced several assists. Add his well-timed arrivals into the box, progressive ball carrying from both wide and central areas, and ability to finish after creating separation, and you have a winger who is a genuine goal threat. Aerial ability is naturally not his strongest attribute at his size, but he has still scored with his head this season, as well as with his right foot, although most of his goals come from that outstanding left.
Areas for improvement
When Benjaminsen beats his man out wide, he tends to look for the shot himself. While completely understandable given his dribbling ability, acceleration and outstanding left foot, adding more crosses and cut-backs would make his game less predictable.
More frequent and better-timed runs in behind the defence would also give him another dimension, particularly when stepping up to a higher level.
It is refreshing to see a young player express himself so freely on the pitch. His celebrations and overall demeanour can, however, occasionally come across as provocative to opponents and their supporters. A little more restraint could help him avoid unnecessary attention without taking away from his personality.
Career trajectory and current form
Benjaminsen developed at Skála IF and was quickly recognised as one of the biggest talents in Faroese football. Norwegian Eliteserien side Kristiansund BK identified his potential and brought him into their youth setup in March 2024, when he was just 16.
He progressed well, trained with the first team, was included in the matchday squad against Tromsø later that year and made his cup debut in April 2025. However, the breakthrough he was looking for never came, and he returned home to join Víkingur Gøta in March 2026.
That move has proved to be the turning point. After limited minutes early in the season, Benjaminsen found his rhythm and has at times been almost unplayable since May, producing 8 goals and 8 assists in 19 matches. He has also scored in both UEFA Conference League qualifying matches against Icelandic side Stjarnan.
P.S. Benjaminsen is the son of former Faroe Islands international Fróði Benjaminsen, who earned 95 caps for his country and is currently manager of the Faroe Islands U19 side. From 1 January 2027, he is due to take over at KÍ Klaksvík.
Transfer outlook
The Faroe Islands currently sit 41st in UEFA’s league coefficient rankings, with KÍ Klaksvík’s qualification for the UEFA Conference League league phase in 2023 providing a major boost to the country’s ranking.
At the time of writing, five clubs remain involved in a close title race after 19 rounds, with Víkingur eight points behind leaders NSÍ Runavík. With KÍ Klaksvík also still fighting for European qualification, the competition provides a healthy platform for young players.
Benjaminsen is therefore under no immediate pressure to leave. We doubt, however, that European clubs will have the patience to wait. His performances domestically and in Europe are likely to have attracted attention already, and we would not be surprised if someone moves for him this summer.
No player has reportedly left the Faroese top flight for more than around €100,000. Benjaminsen should comfortably break that record, but a fee in the region of €150–200k could still represent an excellent opportunity for a player with his talent and upside.
Norwegian second-tier side Ranheim had considerable success developing fellow Faroese Aki Samuelsen, now with Swedish champions Mjällby. A similar step could make sense for Benjaminsen, although his previous experience in Norway with Kristiansund should also make a return to Eliteserien particularly attractive.
Sweden or Denmark could also suit his profile. Wherever he ends up, this is a player we expect to see move up the European football pyramid sooner rather than later.
