Emrick Fotsing has completed his move from Vancouver FC to Vancouver Whitecaps, with both clubs confirming the transfer of the highly rated Canadian midfielder.
The agreement follows reports earlier in August that the MLS side were in talks to sign the 18-year-old.
Fotsing has signed a contract with the Whitecaps through the 2029-30 MLS season, with a club option for 2030-31.
He will not make the move across Vancouver immediately. As part of the agreement, Fotsing will return to Vancouver FC on loan for the remainder of the 2026 Canadian Premier League season before joining the Whitecaps ahead of the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.
A record transfer for Vancouver FC
The transfer represents a significant deal for both Fotsing and the Canadian Premier League.
Vancouver FC describe it as the largest transfer in the club’s history, surpassing the previous record set when Grady McDonnell moved to Club Brugge in January 2025.
The CPL also says the deal is the second-largest transfer in league history, behind only Kwasi Poku’s move from Forge FC to RWD Molenbeek in 2024.
The transfer fee has not been publicly disclosed.
Fotsing has made 39 appearances across all competitions for Vancouver FC since joining the club in February 2025, starting 25 matches and scoring four goals.
From the CPL to MLS
Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster says the club have been monitoring Fotsing closely as he has progressed from the CF Montréal academy into senior football with Vancouver FC and Canada’s youth national teams.
The Whitecaps highlight his technical ability, intelligence and character as qualities that convinced the club to bring him into their long-term plans.
Fotsing has also taken another major step internationally in 2026.
He co-captained Canada at the Concacaf U-20 Championship, scoring twice against Panama before adding an assist against Honduras. Canada went on to secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The midfielder is currently recovering from a hip injury suffered while on international duty. He is rehabilitating with the Whitecaps’ sports medicine and science team before returning to Vancouver FC in September.
For Fotsing, the transfer completes a rapid progression from academy football with CF Montréal, through meaningful senior minutes in the Canadian Premier League and now into the MLS pathway with Vancouver Whitecaps.
SkyrScout reported on August 12 that the Whitecaps were in talks to sign Fotsing.
Two weeks later, the deal is official.
