Emrick Fotsing made a superb start to the 2026 U20 CONCACAF Championship, captaining Canada and scoring twice in a 3–0 victory over Panama in their opening group match in Puebla, Mexico.
The 2007-born Vancouver FC midfielder needed just nine minutes to make his mark. According to AS USA, Fotsing headed Canada into the lead before Liam Mackenzie converted a penalty five minutes later. Fotsing then struck again in second-half stoppage time to complete both his brace and Canada’s 3–0 victory.
It was an impressive opening statement in an important tournament for Canada’s emerging generation. Canada Soccer selected Fotsing for the championship after his continued development with Vancouver FC in the Canadian Premier League.
SkyrScout first took a closer look at Fotsing in November 2025 and highlighted his strength, athleticism and ability to influence the game at both ends of the pitch.
Our scouting report described him as a powerful box-to-box midfielder, capable of carrying the ball forward at speed, making well-timed runs into attacking areas and providing a genuine goal threat from midfield. His physical strength, aerial presence and timing were also identified as major qualities — attributes that were on display again when he headed Canada into the lead against Panama.
His progress has since attracted wider recognition in Canada. Ahead of the 2026 season, the Canadian Premier League selected Fotsing among eight U21 players to watch after a promising first professional campaign with Vancouver FC.
Now captaining his country and opening the U20 CONCACAF Championship with two goals, Fotsing has provided another strong indication of why he caught our attention last autumn.
