A classic number nine with a modern athletic profile, Josué Vergara is an imposing presence at 196 cm. Despite his towering frame and strong physique, he moves remarkably well across the pitch, showing good mobility, coordination, and surprisingly refined technical fundamentals for a striker of his size.

Vergara is more than just a target man. His link-up play is solid, and he shows good awareness when dropping deeper to combine with midfielders. His passing is reliable, allowing him to contribute in build-up phases rather than merely finishing attacks.

Inside the box, his movement and positioning stand out. He consistently finds dangerous pockets of space and displays excellent finishing instincts. Predominantly right-footed, he is still capable of producing quick, powerful finishes with either foot. Aerially, he is a major threat in attacking situations, particularly on crosses and set pieces, where his timing and physical presence make him difficult to handle. He has also shown composure from the penalty spot, converting both penalties he has taken this season.

Areas for improvement

At just 18 years old, there is naturally room for tactical refinement. While already effective aerially inside the box, he could become more dominant in aerial duels when contesting long balls from deeper areas. As he matures physically, additional strength will further enhance his ability to compete against higher-level defenders.

His movement can also become more varied and unpredictable. Improving the timing and diversity of his runs in behind would make him an even more difficult striker to defend against.

Career trajectory and current form

Vergara made his senior debut for Tauro FC in Panama’s Liga Panameña de Fútbol during the latter part of the 2024 season, shortly after turning 17. That same year, he also gained experience in the CONCACAF Central American Cup.

In February 2026, Latvian side FK Auda identified his potential and brought him to the Virslīga. The transition has been an immediate success. Vergara has exploded onto the scene with 8 goals and 2 assists in his first 10 matches, quickly establishing himself as one of the league’s most dangerous young forwards.

Transfer outlook

Young strikers with size, mobility, and proven finishing ability are always in demand, and Vergara already looks capable of attracting attention from larger clubs. However, regular playing time and the opportunity to feature in Conference League qualification with FK Auda may make staying in Latvia through 2026 the smartest step for his development.

A move during the next winter transfer window appears more realistic. Should he continue scoring and perform well in European qualifiers, interest from significantly stronger leagues is likely to intensify. Profile-wise, he looks particularly well suited to Nordic football, and the Norwegian Eliteserien could be an excellent next step if his development continues at the current pace.
