Maksimilian Skvortsov makes senior Estonia debut in Nations League

Maksimilian Skvortsov has made his senior international debut for Estonia, coming off the bench in Tuesday’s 0-0 UEFA Nations League draw against Iceland in Tallinn.

The 18-year-old Levadia midfielder replaced Patrik Kristal in the 68th minute at A. Le Coq Arena, earning his first senior cap in a competitive international.

Skvortsov had received his first senior call-up in September, when he and Sander Alamaa were named as the two potential debutants in Jürgen Henn’s squad for the September-October Nations League window.

After remaining on the bench in Estonia’s earlier matches, Skvortsov was handed his opportunity against Iceland and helped Estonia see out the final stages of a hard-fought goalless draw.

The point left Estonia second in Nations League Group C4 after four matches, behind Iceland.

SkyrScout profiled Skvortsov in July after his strong season with FCI Levadia, highlighting his progressive carrying, technical quality and ability to influence games from midfield.

He can now add a senior international cap to that season.
