Asbjørn Bøndergaard could be heading back to the club where he produced the breakthrough season that first put him firmly on the radar.
Viaplay Sport News reports that FC Fredericia are close to buying the 22-year-old striker from Lyngby Boldklub. TransferFeed, citing Bold, reports that the deal is almost complete and that Bøndergaard is expected to undergo a medical later on Monday afternoon.
There is no official confirmation from either club yet, but the reports point to a transfer that has moved well beyond initial interest.
Back to where he exploded
A return to Fredericia would reunite Bøndergaard with the club where he enjoyed a hugely productive loan spell from Silkeborg in 2024/25.
He scored 17 goals in 25 league appearances as Fredericia secured a historic promotion to the Danish Superliga. SkyrScout profiled him during that season, on December 6, 2024, when he had already produced 12 goals and two assists in 18 NordicBet Liga matches.
The footage showed a quick centre-forward with excellent timing in behind, strong movement inside the box and calm finishing with both feet and in the air.

Fredericia never forgot him
This would not be a sudden reunion.
FC Fredericia tried to bring Bøndergaard back after his loan spell, and Campo reported that the club came extremely close to signing him from Silkeborg in the summer of 2025 before the deal collapsed in the final hours of deadline day.
The interest remained. In December, Fredericia director Stig Pedersen openly confirmed that the club still had a very good eye on Bøndergaard while looking for a physically strong number nine.
Instead, Bøndergaard moved to Lyngby in January 2026.
A club-record move that may last only eight months
Lyngby signed Bøndergaard from Silkeborg on January 21 on a five-year contract. The transfer was described by the club as a major investment, and Danish reporting later put the fee at DKK 3.7 million, making him Lyngby’s record signing at the time.
Bøndergaard helped Lyngby win promotion to the Superliga, but his role has become more limited since the new top-flight season began. He started the opening matches but has not been in the starting XI for the last three league games, appearing instead from the bench.
Now, only eight months after joining Lyngby, a return to Fredericia appears close.
A very familiar solution
For Fredericia, the attraction is obvious. They know the player, they know exactly what he can do at this level, and Bøndergaard has already delivered one of the best seasons of his senior career at Monjasa Park.
Fredericia were relegated after one season in the Superliga and are now back in the Danish second tier. Bringing back a striker who scored 17 league goals during their previous promotion campaign would be about as familiar a solution as they could find.
For Bøndergaard, it would also mean leaving a Superliga club only months after helping Lyngby win promotion. But if his route to regular starts has narrowed, returning to a place where he has already been highly successful could offer immediate playing time and a central role again.
The timing is also significant. The Danish transfer window remains open through September 2, leaving the clubs time to complete the move if the reported medical and final negotiations go as planned.
For now, this remains a reported transfer rather than a completed one. But with multiple Danish sources describing the deal as close, Bøndergaard looks increasingly likely to wear Fredericia colours again.
