Andreas Lausen has made his competitive debut for Gil Vicente, starting the club’s opening match of the 2026/27 Liga Portugal season against Rio Ave.
The Danish midfielder played 76 minutes as Gil Vicente began their league campaign with a 1-0 home victory. Héctor Hernández, who replaced Lausen, later scored the winning goal from the penalty spot in the 87th minute.
The appearance represents a significant step in Lausen’s career. The 23-year-old joined Gil Vicente in July after playing for Esbjerg in the Danish 1st Division, the second tier of Danish football, moving directly into one of Europe’s stronger top-flight leagues.
Lausen had already made a strong impression during pre-season. He featured regularly for his new club and scored in friendlies against Paredes, Moreirense and Penafiel. Portuguese newspaper Record reported before the league opener that he had quickly established himself as a leading option in Luís Pinto’s midfield and was expected to begin the season as a starter.
That expectation was confirmed against Rio Ave, with Lausen immediately trusted from the first whistle in his first competitive match following the move from Denmark.
Gil Vicente signed Lausen to a contract running until 2030 after he recorded three goals and four assists for Esbjerg in the 2025/26 season.
