A highly technical and intelligent midfielder who can operate centrally as an attacking midfielder or as a wide playmaker on either flank.

Rea is a gifted ball-carrier with excellent balance, close control and the confidence to take on opponents at full speed. His creativity shines through in the finer technical details: deft touches, disguised passes and clever chips over the defensive line that often catch defences off guard. A true little magician with shades of Luka Modrić in his movement and composure on the ball.

Comfortable using both feet for passing, crossing and shooting, Rea is genuinely two-footed. His right foot is particularly dangerous from set pieces, while his overall distribution is crisp and precise.

His vision allows him to identify vertical passing lanes and slip passes through compact defensive shapes. His late or deeper runs behind the defensive line can also create scoring opportunities.

Defensively, he is far from passive. Rea is strong in ground duels, quick to anticipate turnovers and capable of triggering counter-attacks immediately after regaining possession.

Areas for improvement

Rea needs to increase his direct goal involvement. With 2 goals and 5 assists in 29 matches, his creative influence is clear, but given his technical level and understanding of the game, he should be producing more in the final third.

Career trajectory and current form

After establishing himself in the Canadian Premier League, Rea earned a move to CF Montréal and featured in Major League Soccer during the 2023 season, with mixed success.

Now back in the Canadian Premier League with HFX Wanderers, he is again showing the technical quality, creativity and individual flair that originally made him stand out.

Transfer outlook

Rea’s contract with HFX Wanderers expires at the end of 2025.
