Max Nilsson is a technically sound and highly involved right-back who can also play in central midfield. He is very comfortable in possession and regularly moves far inside from the right flank to take part in the build-up, giving his team an extra passing option centrally.

Passing is one of his clearest strengths. He plays with good accuracy and composure, and is heavily involved in progressing possession from deeper areas. His technical level is good, and while he is not a natural dribbler, he carries the ball effectively at speed and can move play forward himself when space opens up.

Nilsson also offers a genuine goal threat through his movement. He makes dangerous deep runs into the penalty area and arrives well from behind the play, giving him opportunities to finish attacks. He has decent pace and is capable of contributing in advanced areas without needing to beat opponents repeatedly in one-on-one situations.

Defensively, there is still room for improvement. He can make poor decisions when clearing the ball, with some clearances lacking direction and control. His duel play can become stronger, and he also picks up too many yellow cards. These are areas that need refinement as he continues to develop.
