Scouting Report

Jayder Asprilla • 23-year-old centre-forward • Colombia

Standing 185 cm tall, Jayder Asprilla is a classic number nine currently playing for FC Sheriff Tiraspol in Moldova, the club internationally remembered for its famous 2–1 victory over Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu in 2021.

Asprilla combines strength with very good pace, making him a constant threat through intelligent runs behind the defensive line. His movement inside the penalty area is one of his standout qualities. He consistently finds dangerous positions and generates a high volume of chances through timing, anticipation, and striker instinct.

Aerially, he is very strong, particularly inside the box where he attacks crosses aggressively and finishes with conviction. His finishing overall is reliable and versatile, capable of scoring with either foot as well as with his head. He has the natural goal-scoring instincts expected from a leading striker.

His left foot is especially impressive, both in open play and in passing situations. He strikes the ball cleanly and powerfully, while also delivering accurate passes and combinations in advanced areas. From the penalty spot he has shown confidence and composure.

Technically, Asprilla is well developed for a physical striker. He is capable of carrying the ball forward himself and has enough dribbling ability to escape pressure when needed. One of the more underrated aspects of his profile is his consistency. He rarely delivers poor performances and has adapted remarkably quickly to football and life in Eastern Europe after arriving from South America. He has also demonstrated an ability to perform in high-pressure matches.

Areas for improvement

Improving his composure in rushed situations could increase his scoring output even further. There is also room to become more dominant when contesting long aerial balls from deeper areas, which would strengthen his suitability for higher-ranked European leagues.

Career trajectory and current form

Asprilla developed through the Atlético Nacional academy and made his Categoría Primera A debut in 2022. After limited involvement in 2023, he was loaned to Tauro FC in Panama in 2024, though he did not feature competitively there.

Ahead of the 2025 season, he joined Real Cundinamarca in Colombia’s Primera B, where he formed an effective attacking partnership with Arney Rocha, now at Miami FC in the USL Championship. The season proved to be his breakthrough, producing 26 goals in 49 matches.

After monitoring him closely throughout 2025, it appeared likely for us that he would receive a greater opportunity at Atlético Nacional. Instead, the club chose to cash in and prioritise another young striker internally, selling Asprilla to FC Sheriff Tiraspol in February 2026 for a reported fee of €550,000 plus a 30% sell-on clause.

The move has proven highly successful. Asprilla has adapted immediately in Moldova, recording 9 goals and 2 assists in 14 matches while helping Sheriff secure the Moldovan Cup title, scoring the opening goal in the 2–0 final victory over rivals Petrocub.

Transfer outlook

The Moldovan league may sit outside Europe’s top competitions, but regular participation in UEFA qualifiers gives players an important platform. Sheriff Tiraspol’s involvement in Europa League qualification this summer could significantly increase exposure for Asprilla.

Profile-wise, he appears exceptionally well suited to Scandinavian football, particularly the Norwegian Eliteserien. However, continued performances in European competition could also generate interest from stronger leagues such as Belgium or the Netherlands. Given his age, physical profile, and proven scoring output, Asprilla looks capable of climbing several levels higher in the coming years.
