Baba Salifu Apiiga is a young left-back with clear attacking qualities and experience higher up the pitch as a left winger. He is in his third season playing regularly at left-back for Accra Lions and is also listed as vice-captain on the club’s website.

Apiiga is a set-piece specialist. Both of his assists in 2024 came from corners, giving him a useful source of attacking value from dead-ball situations. In open play, he looks more convincing offensively than defensively and has enough technical quality to contribute further forward on the left side.

His pace is decent rather than exceptional. Defensively, he can be too aggressive when stepping forward to try to win or intercept the ball, and opponents can play around him when the timing is wrong. This raises some uncertainty over whether left-back is ultimately his best position, especially given his previous experience on the wing.

His situation at Accra Lions is also worth monitoring. David Oduro, the club’s 18-year-old left-back, was sold to Barcelona before the season, while Accra Lions signed another 17-year-old left-back on 21 January 2025. Apiiga has not played since before Christmas and has not been included in the squad.

There is too little available footage and statistical information to draw firm conclusions, but Apiiga has enough qualities to make him an interesting player to follow.
